Hello from Macwooly

Hello, my name is Alex and I live with my husband, 2 dogs and 1 cat.

My cat is called Jolson and is a beautiful black shorthaired moggy who came to me from the RSPCA in December 1999 along with his mother Cisco. Jolson has hyperthyroidism which has been controlled wonderfully with medication. He is a real grumpy old man and knows what he likes and bullys me, my husband and the dogs to get whatever he wants which is usually the lion's share of a king sized bed :)

Cisco was a real queen with a mean streak. She was a gorgeous black shorthaired moggy who used to sleep on my pillows above my head. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in early November 2006 after never recovering from a thyroidectomy.

We then had another cat called Moab. She was a longhaired tortie and white moggy. We got her from a friend of a friend in late November 2006. We thought she would be company for Jolson. She was a real terror and brought such smiles to our faces but she unfortunately crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March 2007 at about 6 months of age when she was hit by a car.

Jolson was never really happy with Cisco or Moab so we decided to keep him a solo cat after that but he was drawn to dogs he saw in the street so we gave him some canine family members.

My dogs are a Rottweiler called Tiny who was born in the Blue Cross and we adopted her at 12 weeks of age in January 2008 and Baldrick a Lurcher (which we believe is a Deerhound X Bedlington Terrier) who we adopted from a small rescue in Wales in February this year.

I am a housewife but I help out rescues by home checking and transporting animals for them.

Welcome to the forum !

Wow your brood sound lovely - and what a nice lot of original names you have for them all. So sad when you lose a pet, the hurt never gets easier, does it? Everytime I lose one It breaks my heart.

I currently have a house full of foster cats and kittens so never a dull moment here, and I have three of my own cats, one also with thyroid probs, but on felimazole which controls it, and we have a dog too, rottie x staffie !
In ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped as gods, cats have never forgotten this.

I bet your rottie X staffie is a character and puts a smile on your face.

I'd love to be in a position to foster but we feel Jolson would pack his bags and go :(

The hurt of losing a loved family pet doesn't get easy but my husband and I can think of Cisco and Moab with a smile.

In my past I had a huge ginger and white Tom called Chivers. He was so lovely to me but such a swine to everyone else and used to beat up dogs. He passed in September 1999. He died from a heart attack about 6 weeks after a thyroidectomy, which is why Jolson's on medication (I couldn't bear the thought of him having surgery as I'd lost the other 2 within 6 weeks of surgery).
